Manila Calling Brings Filipino Creativity to Spain and Beyond
A landmark traveling exhibition, pop-up program, and cultural exchange arriving in Spain in May 2026
Manila / Barcelona / Madrid
Inspired by London Calling by The Clash, Manila Calling… launches in May 2026 as a traveling art exhibition and indie pop-up tour connecting Manila, Barcelona, Madrid, and Tokyo. The project brings together visual artists, illustrators, designers, and creatives from the Philippines, Spain, France, Italy, and Japan, combining live painting, silk textile installations, limited-edition merchandise, and music-driven events into one immersive experience.
Produced by Manila Collective Inc., a nonprofit championing Filipino creativity, Manila Calling reimagines the traditional exhibition. Part gallery, part curated “museum gift shop,” and part street-level art party, it invites audiences to experience, celebrate, and take home art as a tangible story.
For the exhibition, participating artists submitted original artworks that Manila Collective translated into a series of silk textile works, transforming each contribution into a unified installation while preserving the distinct visual language of every artist. These works are presented alongside approved limited-edition prints, zines, apparel, and collectible objects created by the participating creatives.
The journey begins with pop-up events in B-Murals Barcelona (May 15–16) and Espacio Amen in Madrid (May 19–20). The Madrid leg will feature a special collaborative show with renowned graffiti artists and pioneers in Spain, presented in partnership with Pilipinas Street Plan, highlighting the shared visual language between Filipino and Spanish street culture and creating dialogue between generations of graffiti and public artists.
Following the European leg, Manila Calling returns home for its Philippine exhibition launch at Centro de Turismo Intramuros (Old San Ignacio Church) from June 6 to June 27, 2026, presenting the full collection of silk textile works by participating creatives alongside special installations and programming in the historic heart of Manila. A Tokyo presentation is currently to be confirmed, while Barcelona will host a closing celebration in July 2026.
Featured artists include Martí Sawe, Emilio Cerezo, Nano Abia, Escif, Mabuhay Maynila, ProudRace, Garapata, Doktor Karayom, Mich Dulce, Rob Cham, Mina Hamada, and 3ttman, alongside Japanese artists Fate, Suiko, Imaone, and Shutieone from Japan’s THA Collective, and photographer Kouichi Nakazawa of the independent shop Gotham Timez. Altogether, 70 creatives from Spain, the Philippines, France, Italy, and Japan make Manila Calling… a truly global collaborative showcase where art is experienced, celebrated, and carried home as part of the story.
Manila Calling 2026 is presented with the support of the Embassy of Spain in the Philippines.
